How to increase the profitability of coffee business

Coffee drinkers go to coffee shops because they are after the extraordinary delicious coffee. So when you buy coffee shop premises make sure that you're up to the challenge of serving your customers what they want. But aside from the quality drinks, you have to make sure you attend as well to the business side of your shop. Most coffee shops sell a variety of coffee items from drip coffee, espresso-based drinks, retail roasted coffee beans, to coffee pairings such as cookies and pastries. But years of observation make owners realize that the people are always after the espresso-based and the drip coffee. This is now the ratio that you need to focus on if you want to succeed with your business.

The ideal ratio that maximizes the profitability of the coffee business is 80 percent espresso-based to 20 percent drip coffee. This is for the obvious reason that you can sell the espresso-based drinks twice as much per cup. If you haven’t got the ideal 80/20 ratio then here are the tips to increase it. This is a perfect read even for those who are yet to buy coffee shop premises.

Make the best espresso-based drinks in town. This is the most ideal thing to aim for. Of course, expect tough competition among other coffee shops, but as long as you never stop researching and improving your espresso you are definitely on the right path. Keep in mind that quality drinks begins with quality beans – consider the origin, harvest method, and roasting of the beans.

Fully-trained barista. Another key to improve the ratio is to have a well-trained barista who knows how to make a great-tasting espresso-based drink. It takes knowledge and experience to make a perfect blend thus, hire a barista with this full qualification.

Ergonomical Coffee Workstation. Though you offer the best tasting espresso-based drinks but you often keep your customers in the long line, you can still lose them in a matter of minutes. People are not fond of waiting. They’d not think twice to transfer to another coffee shop with faster and more efficient service. To improve the efficiency of your staff, design the workstation in a way that your barista will barely need to move when preparing the coffee. Since you are aiming to sell more espresso-based drinks, keep the espresso machine within the sights of your customers while keeping out the drip machine.

Design your menu strategically. When people scan the menu they look from left to right or from top to bottom. Put the espresso-based menu on top left so the customers can see it right away. You can remove the drip coffee off the menu to avoid it influencing the choice of your customers. People who want it will still ask for it anyway. This is one good strategy to raise the ratio of espresso-based drinks over the drip coffee;sending your profit skyrocketing.

When you buy coffee shop premises check the location for competitors and check on the quality of their espresso-based items. Always be on your toes and keep your shop updated with the latest trends.
