Ningbo saw a total export-import volume of US$97.17 billion in the first half of 2012, up 2.3% year on year, according to the latest statistics released by Ningbo Customs. The figure includes US$36.93 billion imports, down 1.4%, and US$60.24 billion exports, up 4.8%. The European debt crisis has led to weak demand for Chinese products in European countries. The EU trade via Ningbo port reached US$17.21 billion, down 4% year on year. Exports of characteristic pillar industries in Ningbo such as mechanical & electrical products, textiles, furniture, and plastic products have kept rising this year. Between January and June this year, Ningbo port saw US$29.25 billion exports of mechanical & electrical products, up 6.7%, US$12.78 billion exports of textiles, up 3.4%, US$2.2 billion exports of furniture & machine parts, up 10.4%, US$1.69 billion exports of plastic products, up 12.5%.
