The Symbolic Significance of Tibetan Healing Prayer Flags and Incense Sticks

Party Ideas
The origin of Tibetan incense sticks and Tibetan healing prayer flags dates back to thousands of years. The flimsy material, vibrant colours and the gentle dance which these flags perform when the wind twists as well as turns them always have captured attention. In fact these are reminders of the courage, intention and power of hope. Tossing together in wind, these healing flags signify divine goodness and spiritual health. Initially the role of these flags was healing and spirituality but with the passage of time these have evolved to denote hope and peace especially to the downtrodden and the oppressed. Despite the flags turning contemporized, both its appeal and message continue in encouraging and enlightening all who see them dancing and moving in the wind. These healing flags have been designed to bring benefit to all, thereby invoking strength, wisdom, peace, harmony and passion and above all providing protection from evil and dangers.

Healing prayer flags and its colours and symbols:

Colours and symbolic images correspond to the Buddha families along with their qualities. Every colour and image meaningfully relates to the whole. These are as follows,

  • The colour green and the image of a sword represents meaningful action
  • The colour yellow and the image of a jewel represent qualities of generosity and equanimity
  • The colour blue and the image of wheel of knowledge represent the awakened mind
  • The colour red and the image of a lotus represent compassion and love
  • The colour white and the image of vajra represent the inspiring eminence of diamond clarity

A brief on Tibetan incense:

Along with healing prayer flags, another thing which the Tibetans widely use is incense sticks. When burned these produce an earthy, pure and rich aroma that can work wonders to calm and soothe a restless mind. Besides, it is also utilized for purifying the milieu and an aid when it comes to relaxation and meditation. Incense sticks are also used in Tibetan medicine for alleviating anxiety, depression and stress. In fact a daily sang or incense offering is a vital part of the Tibetan culture and ritual, no wonder most monasteries and homes have a place reserved exclusively for offering incense. The good news is one can now buy incense sticks from an online store comfortably from their home. One can simply browse from their huge selection of herbal, natural and pure incense sticks. These are available in different varieties such as the forest fresh aromas of Tibetan pine, juniper, sandalwood and cedar wood. The list also includes the sweet scents of lavender, rose and jasmine. One’s favourite incense comes in containers that are properly sealed and are monitored constantly for keeping it fresh and intact.

Just as one’s life goes on and is substituted by a new life, the inhabitants of Tibet replenish their hope by mounting new flags continually alongside the old. In fact this act of theirs represents a welcoming of every change of life as well as a response that every individual is a part and parcel of a better ongoing cycle. The Tibetan incense sticks, melts and incense oils and healing prayers are highly favoured as they help to bring joy, love, peace, happiness, wealth, good health, prosperity and fortune to all.
