Cars play a huge role in American culture. Because they're such a huge part of our lives, people have a tendency to assign human characteristics to them. Just think about how many people you know who have bestowed names upon their vehicles. Their personalities have become so integrated with our imaginations that they make up some of the most interesting characters in modern film. Here are three of the most memorable. Christine Originally a novel by Stephen King, this 1983 horror film was directed by John Carpenter. The title character is a red and white junker owned by Arnie Cunningham, a nerdy teenage boy. The more time Arnie spends restoring Christine to original glory, the more he changes from a shy, awkward kid to one with an arrogant swagger. Christine is vandalized by a group of school bullies, but after magically repairing herself in front of Arnie, she kills each of the perpetrators, one at a time. Christine is one of the most famous cars in movie history because of her murderous attachment to Arnie and her evil powers. KITT KITT, which stands for Knight Industries Two Thousand, is the autonomous, artificially intelligent, nearly indestructible vehicle and sidekick of hero Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff. Michael Knight and KITT work together as a team in the television series Knight Rider that debuted in 1986. KITT helps Knight fight crime and promote justice. KITT is arguably just as important as Michael Knight, and the show largely revolves around this automobile bringing justice to those who deserve it. Bumblebee Featured as the best friend and protector of Sam, the main human character in the Transformers movie franchise, Bumblebee is a bright yellow and black speedster who speaks through the radio dial. One of several Autobot cars, Bumblebee is one of the good guys and strives throughout each Transformers installation to stop the Decepticons from destroying the human race and planet Earth. Just saying the name of any of these three cars will bring up the image of that cherry red, shining black, or bright yellow vehicle and the personality associated with it. For Christine, it's a jealous murderer; for KITT, it's a tireless crime fighter; and for Bumblebee it's a lightning-fast alien superhero. It's a testament to the relationship we have with automobiles that we can so strongly associate thoughts, feelings, and personalities to them.
