Before the activities were started, Dr. Matope, Principle of Kanoi High School, engaged in a friendly conversation with the delegation and extended warm welcome to the Embassy and Delegation, noting that China is the best friend of Zimbabwe and the visit by Chinese friends makes them feel greatly honored. The promotion activities were held at the small auditorium of Kanoi High School at 1:00pm where all seats were occupied. Students showed strong interest in the visit of the delegation. Dr. Matope briefed on the intention of the Delegation, encouraging students to learn Chinese culture and language and contribute their due share to the enhancement of Zimbabwe-China relations. Mr. Cai Jian encouraged students of Kanoi High School to join the force of Chinese learning and indicated that the Embassy will provide all-round support and convenience for students and help them apply for scholarship for study in China. Liu Xiuyan, Chinese Director of the CI, gave a brief account on the general picture of the CI and welcomed students of the High School to study Chinese language and culture at the University of Zimbabwe after graduation. Herbert Mushangwe, a local teacher of the CI, actively exchanged views and interacted with students. During this process, students learned how to introduce themselves in Chinese, understood China’s national condition, and asked questions about China’s cultural and economic development. Teachers of the CI took up every question with great patience. The interaction witnessed repeated climaxes and received rounds of applauses. Finally, the Embassy and CI donated Chinese learning-related magazines, books, audio-visual products and school supplies to Kanoi High School. In closing, a student representative expressed sincere thanks to the delegation and sent a gracious invitation on behalf of all students at the High School, hoping the CI can set up a Confucius Classroom at Kanoi High School so that they can better understand China and Chinese culture.
