When you think of Michigan, you probably think of long, cold winters. You think of families staying home from school and work because of an overabundance of snow on the roads. But this line of thinking is unfair. Once the snow melts and the sun shines, the mitten state starts to let loose. These events take place during the nighttime. They involve you and your son or daughter scavenging for eggs hidden in the dark. Indulge in your child's excitement as he or she finds the multi-colored eggs. Earth Day Extravaganza Earth Day is the day where people across the country show their love and appreciation for the planet they live on. Fenner Nature Center celebrates this day by holding some great educational programs about their resident plants and animals. MSU Science Festival Is your child interested in chemistry, botany, or technology? Michigan State University holds their annual Science Festival during the springtime. If your youngster is curious about the world around her, or you want to expose her to something new, this is the festival to bring her to. With topics ranging from the ordinary to the extraordinary, there is fun for the whole family. Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame The Great Lakes state has a rich heritage. Most people know that the state capital was built in Lansing in 1879, but what most people don't know is that Lansing has its own Walk of Fame dedicated to state residents. In addition, Lansing was the first to create an organization dedicated to women's history. Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame is that organization. Both sites, among other historical sites, would be excellent activities for children to partake in if you're looking something on the educational side. The Historical Center has an ongoing exhibit at their Elizabeth Belen Gallery displaying the history of quilters. Your little one will be enthralled by the beautiful quilts sewn by some of the strongest women in history. There are many places you could go to your in the spring.
