Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, you will definitely need the services air conditioning repair services at one time or another. This is especially true when you live in areas where summers are extremely hot such that the AC unit works excessively so as to maintain the desired temperatures at home. In most cases the AC unit is heavily taxed by the burden which resorts to different forms of wear and tear. While it is important to seek the services of ac contractor, there are a few times when the problem may be a simple one that you can solve on your own. Whenever your air conditioner stops running, there are a few vital things you want to check before you call the repair man: The circuit breaker: If the temperature in your area is quite high, chances are that you AC is using a large amount of power and it can turn off suddenly without a warning. The first thing you must do when that happens is to always check whether the circuit breaker has tripped. In some cases that will be the only problem and a replacement is all that is needed. Leakages: One of the other common problems that comes to people who use window units is one that is not sealed properly. You can check whether this problem exists by lighting a candle next to the window and if the smoke is blown it is an indication of a leak which you can seal using duct tape or foam. Leaks may also happen in the building’s air ducts for those using a central air system. Test in a similar fashion and use duct tape to seal any holes. Check BTU: The BTU rating refers to the measure of the strength of your AC unit. If you discover the room isn’t as cool as it is supposed to be, check for the BTU rating to determine whether the unit is big enough to handle the size of the room or home; sometimes you just need a bigger unit. Clean the Filter: This is a general check that applies to both window and central systems. The filter is a small grating that traps dust and any lose particles that could go through the unit; this helps in keeping the air clean as well as helping the system to run smoothly. However, the filter itself soon becomes overwhelmed by the amount of debris such that it forces the AC system to require extra energy to run. These simple tests will tell whether the problem can be fixed or you need to look for air conditioning repair service.
