While it is true that most of the vehicles at the average dealership are examined by an auto mechanic in advance, you should always ask. You might also inquire about any repairs that may have been made. More often than not, a salesman will be happy to share this information with you because it shows that the automobile was worthy of an investment. 3. Do I Get A Discount If I Pay In Cash? Even though they can often make more money with financing, cash is still king for most car dealers. As such, many of them will accept a bit less for a pre-owned vehicle if you offer to pay them in paper money. It might not be a huge discount, but they may take a few percentage points off the price in some instances. Why? Because cash eliminates a lot of paperwork and other hassles that often come with financing arrangements. At the very least, paying with currency will expedite the buying process and make for a more pleasant experience for all involved. 4. Can I Take An Extended Test Drive? Once again, this option is not offered by all car dealers. That said, many of them will accommodate you if you ask to take one of their secondhand autos overnight. The benefit of taking an extended test drive is that you get to see how the automobile performs on your daily drive. After using the vehicle on a variety of road surfaces and types, you will be in a much better position to make an informed decision. 5. What Is Your Return Policy? If you pay cash for a used auto, very few dealerships will be willing to return your money. That is simply not how the business works. They may, however, be willing to provide you with another automobile of equal or lesser value. Just make sure you ask them about returns in advance, especially if you're paying with cash.
