The Basic Varieties Of Hair Systems

Business
At any given time, it's estimated that over 55 million people in the United States alone are experiencing some degree of significant hair loss. It's nothing to be ashamed of; men and women of all ages all over the world experience baldness. Perhaps more reassuringly, it's very easily treatable. Hair systems have existed for years, and many people have used them very successfully, finding themselves confident and attractive with a thick, bushy mane. Before you rush out the door and sign up, it's good to know the different treatment options available for various circumstances.

Hair Pieces

These are the oldest type of hair system out there. Known to most as toupees or wigs, they're very popular, and for good reason: they're an instant fix. Just pop them on using tape, clips, or a special glue, and you're done. There are primarily two varieties of toupee:

- Those made from mesh, beloved for their natural look and comfort. The downside is that they're not very durable and may need to be replaced frequently. This material can also be expensive. - Polymer wigs, which are very durable and thus far more cost effective than those above. Unfortunately, they can be fairly uncomfortable.

Whichever option you choose is a trade off, but once you determine what's more important to you, this is a very easy fix.

Specialty Medication

This type of treatment is the one that seems to get the most advertising money. These are generally marketed toward those who are balding naturally during the aging process, and they are very popular. Consumers have the option of oral pills or topical ointments. Briefly, there are two drugs that can be used as the active ingredient in these medications: minoxidil and finasteride. Both have positive and negative aspects, so as usual, it's best to ask a doctor about your own situation. Regardless, clinical trials have indicated that these drugs have a high level of effectiveness in reducing balding and sometimes growing new hair. They can also be used as a preventative measure against early hair loss for those with a family history.

Transplants

These are the most commonly used surgical procedures to fight baldness in both men and women. The reason for their popularity certainly has much to do with the fact that they are very minimally invasive. Strands are removed from the back of the head and transplanted either individually or in locks to the balding areas. The transplanted hair, much like a plant after being moved, will then begin growing in its new location. The spot from which it was taken grows back as well.

Scalp Reduction

Of all the hair systems available, this one is not very commonly used due to its fairly invasive nature. Basically, the bald scalp is surgically removed, and a fully grown section of the scalp is stretched over the area where the bare spot was. This surgical option is generally reserved for those who should not receive a transplant.

These hair systems leave plenty of options for those looking to reverse balding and love their new appearance. Anybody interested should discuss these options with their doctor to find the best treatment for their own personal needs.
