Marbella remains one of the biggest celebrity hotspots in Europe. The Spanish resort attracts scores of A-list celebrities and super-rich types, and has been doing so for the last six decades. The resort's appeal to some of the most illustrious names in Hollywood is showing no signs of fading, with a host of stars owning villas in this part of the Costa del Sol. When it comes to villas for sale Marbella is able to cater for some of the most discerning property hunters in the world. Just seventy years ago, Marbella was a quiet fishing village. This all changed after aristocrat Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe travelled to the region to buy land. He didn't have to work too hard to persuade some of Europe's wealthiest families to come and see what he had discovered, and the resort has since become known as one of the world's most opulent and happening destinations. Marbella is a favourite of various well-known figures, ranging from Vladimir Putin to Posh and Becks. The area is home to all manner of extremely desirable boltholes, many of which have been snapped up by wealthy celebrities and other distinguished figures from across the world. Other A-listers who have found a home in Marbella include Hugh Grant, Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni, with even current British Prime Minister David Cameron having been snapped here on multiple occasions. Marbella has also drawn in a number of Cameron's predecessors, including Tony Blair. Michelle Obama is another who has been seen splashing the cash in the region. Unsurprisingly, Marbella continues to attract a wealth of reality stars, with famous faces from The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) and Made in Chelsea regularly being seen here. The resort sometimes known affectionately as "Marbs" apparently plays host to Simon Cowell and Alan Sugar on a regular basis as well as countless Premiership footballers, some of whom own not one but several Marbella properties. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have also seriously considered purchasing a home in the area, with pop aristocrats Madonna and Elton John among the other frequenters of the region. Legend has it that Michael Jackson was spotted here on occasion, too.
