12 Energy Saving Tricks to Reduce Heat in Your Singapore Home

Home Improvement
Living in a tropical country will tempt you from turning your air conditioner for hours or using your fan in the highest temperature just to make your home feel cooler. But doing this will increase your electricity bill, and we’re sure you don’t want that. So we listed twelve energy saving tricks that will help you reduce heat and reduce your electricity bill, at the same time.

1. Shut your blinds and curtains It might look simple to keep your curtains or blinds to remain closed but it can make a big change. As simple as keeping your curtains in Singapore close can stop up to 30% of unwanted heat to enter your home. Doing this tip can lower the temperature indoor up to 20 degrees and it can save you up to 7% on your electricity bills. This tip will prevent you feel the heat especially if your windows are facing south or west.

2. Let natural air enter at night You can let the natural air come in your house during the night. It will feel much colder than during the day. Just use a fan in the right temperature so you can still save your electricity bill. Just be sure to close your blinds and curtains before the morning starts when it can give you too much heat and can wake you up from your sleep.

3. Rotate your fan counter-clockwise Believe it or not, rotating your fan to counter-clockwise can give you much cooler effect than having it clockwise. Your fan needs to be adjusted seasonally and needed to be cleaned frequently so it will function properly and give you the air that you need.

4. Use a fan instead of an air conditioner Instead of letting your air conditioner runs for hours, why don't you do some fan hack? Fill a bowl with ice cubes or an ice pack and place it in front of a fan. This will let the air whips off the ice and will give you misty and chilled temperature.

5. Lower your body temperature Avoid focusing to change the temperature of your house. Instead focus on changing the temperature of your body. Let yourself feel cool just by applying cold cloth onto pulsed areas like wrists or neck, or you can lessen the heat of your body by sipping cold refreshments. Also, keep yourself feel comfortable by wearing light clothes so you'll not feel irritated.

6. Make your bed heat-proof Make sure that you heat-proof your bed to make your sleep more comfortable. You can do it by placing a cool-inducing pillow to make your head feel cooler. This might sound strange, but you can make your sheets cooler by dampening it before bedtime.

7. Exhaust fans After cooking in your kitchen or taking a hot shower from your bathroom, make sure to turn on your exhaust fans. This trick will pull the hot air that rises after cooking or taking a bath.

8. Change your bed sheets frequently Switching your bed sheets frequently will not only make your bedroom look clean but it is also a great way to keep it cool. Opt for bedsheets with cotton material which will make you feel cooler that will help your body breathes easier.

9. Grill food Using your stove or oven can make your house feel so much hotter. It will add to the heat that you already feel. Instead of turning on your stove or oven, use your charcoal grill in your balcony, plus your food will be prepared healthier and tastier.

10. Open doors Make sure you let the air flow naturally through your home by opening your doors. Closing your rooms will prevent the cool air from spreading throughout other areas especially during the afternoon.

11. Switch to LED Did you know that incandescent bulbs can waste about 90% of energy in the heat that it emits? Using this bulbs will make your home feel hotter so replacing it with LED lights will definitely make a difference in cooling your home and it will also lower your electricity bill.

12. Long term improvements For long term improvements in keeping your house cool, you can install blinds or insulated window films. Singapore blinds stores offer a variety of colors and styles to choose from. You can also place some plants on your balcony or windows that will shield your home from sun rays.
