A decorative layer is made from cotton, silk or velvet and a layer that acts as an insulator is made from any material that does not allow heat to pass through. The window treatments are specifically meant to improve the efficiency of energy at home. They provide protection to your home against cold and hot weather. They also prevent cold and hot air from escaping out of the room, enabling you to save more bucks of the electricity.

Thermal curtains and drapes are made from heavy materials such as polyester blend, faux silk, and suede. At times a rubber bucking is used to make them more energy efficient and also help in reducing the noise heard in the room. Rubber reduces the light which passes through the windows enabling one to sleep comfortably during the day. Thermal curtains are available in variety of colors and textures.

The insulating properties of these window treatments results from there thick materials. The colors on the other hand help in reducing noise and offer protection from the sun rays. Some of the curtains need to be dry- cleaned. Therefore you should not clean them using water and soap. Take them to dry cleaners to brush away the dust, dirt and some other allergens on them. Using harsh detergents may damage their fabrics. Add the required amount of detergent and allow them to dissolve before adding the curtains. You need to set the cycle on the washing machine from gentle water temperature to cold.

Remember not to overfill the machine for washing as this could lead to damage of the insulation. Once you’re through with the washing, get the thermal curtains from the washing machine and have them dried in the dyer. Regulate the temperature to low heat so as not to cause any damage to the fabric. When dry, remove the quickly to avoid wrinkling. You may also get the curtains out of the dyer during the time it is yet damp and then hung then to dry.

Thermal living room curtains are effective to any room in the house, even the bathroom. Just ensure that you choose the ones that can be washed by the machine and made from waterproof materials .They should be short and thin. If you happen to use curtains that are made from thick fabrics, there might be a tendency of them acquiring mildew in the long run.
