If Not To Cut, What To Do When Carpet Cleaning Facing Gummy Gum Trouble

Home Improvement,Health,Family & Parenting
Unfortunately, gum can get tracked into your house on the bottom of your shoe and stick in your carpet. There are ways to remove gum from carpet if it embeds itself in carpet fibers. Most homeowners have been there – one child drops a piece of gum or candy, and another runs right over it. Before you know it, the sticky substance is ground into the carpet (or upholstery fibers), and you're sure you have no option but to cover that corner of the couch with a pillow or pull out the scissors to cut away at the damaged carpet.

Resist that impulse – there are some cleaning tricks which are up that will help you remove sticky spots without damaging your carpets or upholstery. Yes very tempting but you may not remove it by just cutting it. Gums and other sticky candies can be cleaned and removed but you must learn how to do it well.

If you're struggling with chewing gum removal, or even getting rid of residual chewing gum stains, the answer to your problem may be simpler than you think: here's what you need to know about removing chewing gum from carpets, other surfaces, and furniture!

Neither is necessary. You can usually remove sticky gum stains with tools you already have around the house.

How to Get Gum Out of Carpets and Upholstery

If you're dealing with gum that has been ground into carpet fibers, the sooner you act the better (as is true with most spots). If you pick it up right away, no harm is done, but if it's pressed into the carpet at all, it can become a gooey, sticky, and frustrating mess.

There are several different methods to choose from, so feel free to choose whichever method will work best with your type of carpet, the supplies you already have at home, and the severity of the situation. This quick, easy carpet cleaning method here should work:

Place a few handfuls of ice in a zip lock bag, and apply the bag of ice directly onto the gum. This will harden the gum and make it easier to remove it from the carpet. Use a scraping tool to fully scrape away the gum. Vacuum the area to remove any loose gum particles. Sponge the stain directly with warm, soapy water, working in a circular motion. Cover the area with a clean white towel or rag to soak up any remaining liquid, and continue patting dry. Many people make the mistake of thinking chewing gum removal is a complete nightmare, but with surfaces it's actually very easy – certainly much less stressful than trying to get gum out of a child's hair, for example. Leftover stains can be tackled easily with a good quality soap or detergent. So there you have it – chewing gum removal is a piece of cake!

The same steps can be used to remove other types of sticky candy from carpeting or upholstery. If this method doesn't work, try a solvent-based tar and adhesive remover, Should your gum removal efforts fail, you can always call a professional carpet cleaner to use a water extraction process that nearly always removes gum from carpet.
