Data centre infrastructure is a dedicated space where companies maintain and operate thier ICT infrastructure. They have come into their own in recent times as a means to be able to allow a business to run its IT all from one hub / location and in a more efficient way. A data center (sometimes spelled datacenter) is a centralized repository which will hold the data of a business. Given their design and the manner they work, they are now seen as a key means of being able to prevent a disaster from happening and are seen as a key area of IT data disaster recovery. Many companies and businesses will have heard of data centres and will be familiar with what they are used for. A data centre is quite literally a facility for holding data, computers, telecommunication equipment and storage systems. They tend to have in place back up provisions, fire suppression, air conditioning for keeping the servers cool and controls in place to keep the servers well maintained. The latter is key for the end user to be able to get the most from the use of the server. The data centres hold the information through their own server machines. These run on a twenty four hour basis, therefore the quality of the server machines and its maintenance is essential for ensuring no problems occur within the machines, so as to hold all the information. The centres are also highly secured, which means that even staff members are made to go through a security procedure before entering into the building. The main purpose of data centers is to ensure the necessary backend environment for making the stored data accessible online at any time of the day and night. Most of the power used by a data center is dedicated to computing and cooling. A measure for data center energy efficiency is the effectiveness of how the power is used. Data centres use in the region of 2.2-3.3% of Britain's total grid power so there does need to be an ethical consideration as to how they are used. Data centre staff manipulate, interpret and support use of data and should be well trained to ensure the centre itself is used in as much of an effective way as it call. Electricity needs to be used as best it can be and the data needs to be handled in the most responsible way it can also.
