People move to a new city for many reasons, but there are certain things to do that are a must. Without these few, simple things to do, your life there can become unbearable. Call the Local Police Department Find out what areas have the highest and the lowest crime rates. If not, you may find yourself in a house that you love and lay down for your first night's sleep only to be woken by gunshots, sirens, and more. Make sure you're not accidentally moving to the wrong part of town. Get Your Bearings Get a good layout of your surroundings. Before you move to a new location, it is helpful to have knowledge of a few central or identifiable landmarks throughout town. While most people think that their cellphones are the best possible way to get around, make sure to have a secondary GPS system for your car. Meet the Neighbors This is a time-honored old tradition that too many people no longer practice. There are many people who have lived in the same location for YEARS and have never even met their neighbors. If you do make the effort to meet them, however, these people will look at you differently. They will watch your home when you are away and they will lend a hand when you find yourself needing one. You may find yourself with great friends, if you just take the time to meet them. Be Courteous This sounds like a 'give-in' on advice, but people don't think about the importance of this simple task. You never know if the guy who spills his latte on you at the coffee shop turns out to be your new boss. Explore New Places With the luxury of a never ending supply of search engines, there is no end to finding things to do in your new location. Map out the places that you know you will love so that you don't find yourself prowling the town looking for things to do. Don't hesitate to stop in at the hipster cafe or maybe even the modern art gallery that you pass every day on your way to work. Exploration leads to discovery. You may find new things there that you never thought you would like. All of these things to do seem simple. With the day to day grind and the stress of moving, people just tend to forget to do these things or never think of them at all. Don't let simple mistakes dictate your new life.
