4 Reasons to Drink Less Bottled Water

Business
Bottled water has become a symbol for healthy, active lifestyles. Part of this has to do with ad campaigns on the part of these companies, which encourage people to carry bottled water when they work out, go on jogs, or even work throughout the day.

However, there may be a few problems with drinking bottled water regularly. Some of these problems are widely known, but others might not be so obvious.

Here are 4 reasons why it might be time to put down the bottle.

1. It's Expensive

Bottled water is the most expensive way to drink. Whether it is spring, purified, sparkling, or flavored, bottled water is more expensive per ounce than any other type of water. If you were to purchase a water softener in St. Cloud and filter your water at home, you would have a larger supply of clean, healthy water for far less. Even generic and discounted brands of bottled water still overcharge for a product that is readily accessible elsewhere. 2. It's Terrible for the Environment

Recycling centers tend to use water bottles as a symbol of the importance of recycling. The reason for this is that water bottles fill up landfills as nonbiodegradable products, meaning that they do not decompose back into the earth like paper and food products do. Bottles of water are wasteful in a number of different ways. Not only do they create tons of waste, but the fossil fuels required to construct all of that plastic does a number on the planet. Fuel waste, pollution, and energy overconsumption all add up to make bottling water one of the worst ways to distribute this vital resource.

3. Plastic Is Unhealthy

Bottles of water are not always as healthy as their companies' ad campaigns may let on. That is because cancer-causing chemicals in plastic can actually be released into the water. There is reason that you are told not to leave water bottles in your car; hot plastic can melt or warp, releasing components of itself into your water. This means that you could be drinking plastic! Worst of all, you have no way of confirming that water bottles were not left in the heat before ending up on the shelves. Next time somebody offers you a bottle of water, say no! Who knows if this person left that bottle in the heat, causing the water to contains bits of plastic?

4. Bottled Water Has Additives

What is more thirst-quenching than salt? Just about everything it turns out. And yet, popular water bottle companies will flavor their water with salt and other minerals. Some people suspect that this is a business tactic, as water that is flavorful but does not actually quench your thirst will not satisfy you, and you will continue to drink more of it. Though the salt is not enough to make you thirsty, it should be bothersome that water bottle companies are claiming to serve you fresh, clean water and instead are serving you something quite the opposite.

What is worse is that additives are poured into the water in order to prevent bacteria from flourishing in the product. Also, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, about 40% of bottled water is derived from municipal water sources, which is essentially tap water! Why pay so much more for water with unwanted additives? Clearly, the better option is to bottle your own water when you are on the go. Use recyclable, re-usable water jugs to take softened water from home with you on the go. When you invest in a water softener in St. Cloud, you are investing in an endless supply of clean, safe, additive-free water that you can take anywhere.
