One of the great things about hiring a professional moving company is that you don't need to prepare at all for them to come and move your home. However, you and your movers will benefit from you taking a small amount of time to get ready for the move yourself. Depending on the company, you may be paying by the hour, so making sure that the packing and loading process is as easy as possible will make your Rapid City movers work quickly limiting the dent to your pocketbook. Here are some ways to get ready for the big day. Clean the Clutter Movers will not organize your home for you. They will make sure that everything is packed safely and securely, but anything that is in a room on the floor or under the bed, goes in a box. That is the basic rule of any moving company; nothing gets left behind. This means that an old candy wrapper or an empty box of tissues will be packed in your things. Just because movers are coming to help you load your belongings into a truck, that doesn't mean they are a cleaning service. If you don't want to deal with unpacking trash, then don't have trash left out to pack. Clean the clutter around your home. Pull out the things under beds and in the corners of your closets. Getting it done now means that you don't have a ton of trash to throw away when you move into your new home. Mark Fragile Things Most movers will recognize if something is fragile by looking at it, but if you have a particular piece of art or an odd item that breaks easily when touched, then you should mark it. Talk to your movers personally if you can to point out the things to take care with. Even if you do point out fragile items, you should mark them as well. In the hustle, it can be easy to forget which things need a little more tender loving care, so it is a good idea to have a visual reminder. Many times moving companies will have custom sized boxes that will help you feel at ease for when they pack these special items. Cover Your Carpet Many moving companies will provide their own drop cloths to keep the carpet clean as they move things in and out of your home, but you should call the company you hire just in case. The last thing you want to worry about is not getting your full security deposit returned or a home sale delayed because mud was tromped in during the moving process. When your movers come, cover your carpet and your hardwood floors to prevent staining and scratching. Pack Your Personal Items If there are items in your home that you would rather not have anyone see, then you should pack them ahead of time. Honestly, professional movers are used to seeing the most embarrassing things imaginable, but if you are uncomfortable with strangers going through your underwear drawer, then simply pack a few boxes ahead of time. Movers do want to know what room to put the boxes in on the other side of the move, so make sure that you label well. Still, there should be no problems with you packing a few boxes ahead of time. Try to be considerate when your Rapid City movers come to pack you up and do as much work and organizing ahead of time. It makes the moving process go much more smoothly when the movers don't have to wade through trash and random odds and ends. Unpacking your own boxes at the other end will be much easier if the items are packed well.
