This article will provide important information about different data loss situations. This includes actions that make the data recovery chances even worse, the different stages of data damage by human mistakes and natural disasters. Overtime, data loss happens in one’s life. Data can disappear in a variety of ways depending on the kind of storage device. Data on a USB flash drive may be lost if it is physically damaged. It can be in the form of a corrupt SD card or it may be the result of a formatted card. A CD or DVD might get scratches and won't read anymore. A hard drive may have a variety of problems (more details in the following paragraphs). A phone or an iPhone may be the cause of data loss as a result of failed software update. Sometimes one can accidentally format or delete important data and accidents by a child’s mistake can destroy all the data such as pressing a wrong key. Other times, a hard drive may physically fail and will make things severe. Regarding to dire importance, a hard drive can sometimes choose to physically fail. When saying hard drive, that means a hard drive from an Apple computer or a Windows laptop which may be a hard disk from a personal or business server and an SSD drive from any desktop or laptop computer. When a hard drive fails, it could be one of the few problems. For example, bad electronic boards (also known as PCB) or head failure. The drive can have a failed motor, firmware corruption or read head failure. Traditional hard drives consist of moving parts like platters and heads. Old hard drives used to have one head and a platter. As the technology improved, the number of platters and heads increased. Now all modern drives come with multiple platters and heads. This means more moving parts; high risk of failure and with the passage of time and moderation in hard drive manufacturing, the risk of failure goes up. When hard drive failure happens, it is very important to analyze the situation carefully. If the data is important, it is best to take the hard drive to a data recovery lab where the data can be rescued. This decreases the cost and will increase the chances of data recovery. Due to lack of knowledge, most of the times end users fail to understand this kind of situation. They try different methods to recover data which makes the situation worse. Keeping the drive for a long period of time does not help in reducing risks. Recovery attempts without proper knowledge and experience ruin the chances of data recovery. So, general advice in these types of scenarios is when the drive gives problems and the data is important, it must be taken to a hard drive recovery to avoid cost and trouble. There are some other important precautions that must not be forgotten before it's too late. For example many people update their iPhones and iPads devices as soon as they see an update alert. It is very crucial to first backup the data before starting the update process. They lose everything when they try to update without backup. The reason is, they aren’t informed of the consequences if the update process fails. Unfortunately this failure happens most of the time and therefore it is important to first backup all the data and then run the update. This is because, in case of software corruption, the only way to bring the phone back to life is to restore it to factory settings and there is no way to recover files on a mobile device that has been reset to factory default. In simple words it is very dangerous to update a phone without having a proper backup. A lot of people think that when data is deleted or the device is formatted, it cannot be recovered. This is not true for hard drives. One most important fact is, when data is deleted or a drive has been formatted, it is very crucial not to use the device because using it will overwrite the old data which makes the data unrecoverable.
