There’s something wonderful about living somewhere cozy and small. You know where everything is, and you don’t need a lot to get by. But, the one downside is the closet space. In any tiny apartment, you’ll have the downside of a tiny closet. A tiny closet creates a few different problems, especially if you happen to have a lot of things in need of storage. But, if you happen to have a lot of clothing, or live with a significant other or roommate, a tiny closet can quickly become a problem. If you have a problem closet, or are simply looking for a little more organization, here are a few tips to building the perfect closet—even in a tiny space! If you end up needing Salt Lake closet organizers, there are many to choose from. Needs vs. Wants The first thing you need to do when you realize that your closet is too small for your stuff is to pare everything down. That’s right: you’ll need to get rid of a lot of stuff. There’s lots of advice online for doing this, but the best advice is from Marie Kondo. If you don’t get a good feeling from the piece of clothing or have bad memories associated with it, get rid of it. You’ll never wear it again, especially after deciding that it has bad memories associated with it! Extra Rod Space A great way to add a bunch of extra hanging space is to place the rods strategically throughout your closet. You should have enough vertical space to where you can hang two rods, which will automatically give you double the space. If you have a walk in closet, and are able to have rods on both sides, consider hanging two rods on both sides. You may even consider adding a rod to the space across from the door. You’ll have to stagger the rods, but you may get even more room for hanging clothes than you had ever anticipated. Get Creative with Drawers Dressers and drawers are a staple of any wardrobe furnishings. Drawers are wonderfully useful for things that don’t need to be hung. Smaller items like bras and undergarments can easily be stored in drawers, as well as t-shirts, shorts, and accessories. But, when you have little space in your room, let alone a small closet, you will naturally struggle to find space for drawers. If you have a bit of a larger small closet, you may have room to include a shelving system, like a few different kinds from Ikea. You can also use small baskets at the bottom of the closet to recreate the feeling of drawers in your closet. If you already have built in shelving, purchase shelving dividers to make specific areas for clothes and to better organize your space. Use the Inside of the Door (and Above the Door) A really great way to fill that closet to the brink is to use the door for extra space. For things you don’t use too often, like luggage and backpacks, try hanging them above the door. You could even install a shelf above the door and use that for luggage. For the door, there are quite a few different options. There are many types of hanging devices, like a shoe rack, which you can hang from the door, but there are also shelves that can be hung from the door, where you can keep smaller items or accessories out of the way. Use That Under the Bed Space Under the bed is a classically unused but useful space. There are many things that you can store under the bed, like shoes, summer clothing, or children’s toys. Use this space wisely and you can get a lot of use out of this and make your closet a lot emptier because of it. For Salt Lake closet organizers, small closets are decently difficult to deal with, but they can be made into something extremely organized and streamlined with the right ideas.
