The Great Conference Centres of Prague

Travel & Tourism
One of the prime influencers when selecting a geographic conference destination is just how wide a choice of physical venues it offers.

No organiser of a conference wishes to feel that they’re being forced to make questionable compromises on their requirements simply because of the limited choice.

Equally, trying to ‘shoehorn’ such gatherings into an unsuitable building or operating on a one-size-fits-all basis is a proven first step on the road to disappointment and sub-optimal results. Consequently, those cities that offer a wide range of options score highly in international assessments of conference destinations.

Prague

That’s partly why Prague has shot to the top of the list of conference venue providers over recent years.

In this beautiful city, there are literally dozens (40+) centres offering such facilities and organisers will be spoilt for choice. Ranging from the modest to the opulent and the modern to the traditional, there is something suitable for every conference – large or small.

There are far too many to list and discuss in detail here, but the following pick provides some insight into the phenomenal selection of top-class locations available:

• The National House of Vinohrady. A very impressive 19th century building where the emphasis is on style and grandeur. It’s right in the centre of the city and only 30 minutes away from the airport.

• The Prague Congress Centre. This vast and ultra-modern building can accommodate over 9,000 people in its 70 rooms. Customisable, of course, for smaller gatherings, it’s located on the main through-road into and out of the city.

• Žofin Palace. Stunningly elegant and on a small island in the very middle of the city, it was built in the 1830s. There are four main rooms and a maximum capacity of around 1200.

• Prague Castle. There are two separate facilities here, comprising together over 30 rooms. Based in the most iconic of the city’s landmarks, it’s ideal for those who love historic surroundings for their conferences.

• Musée Grévin. A very eccentric location at the heart of the Old Town, this is essentially an old ‘Belle Époque’ theatre and ballroom. It can easily accommodate both conferences and their recreational activities alongside.

• The City Conference Centre. Sitting just outside of the very city centre, the ‘CCC’ is an ultra-modern complex that can support small and large events.

• Galerie Rudolfinum. An extraordinarily beautiful building featuring an impressive marble exhibition hall and supporting meeting facilities. Perhaps best suited to exhibitions and displays, it can be found directly on the river bank in the town centre.

• Dox. Although not a particularly illuminating name, these are, in fact, very appealing ex-industrial premises that serve as a modern art gallery but alongside that have great conference centre facilities attached as well. Once again, located in a very central part of Prague.

• Greenpoint Conference Centre. Slightly more modest in appearance than many of the others above, this is nevertheless and excellent smaller and modern facility, located a little way outside of the main central city area. It has six large meeting rooms in peaceful surroundings.

Summary

Very few other cities in Europe can offer conference organisers a choice of several different palaces as potential venues! Prague can, though, and it provides a vast number of less extravagant locations too.

The above list really is only the briefest of summaries of what this major conference destination city provides, but if it has provoked your interest, it’s advisable to dig deeper into the options.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of private and shared airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for business transfers to conference centres in Prague, Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport surely, swiftly and safely.
