Role of Physical Fitness in Teenagers

Teenage years are very important in everyone's life as there will be lot of changes in personality, emotions and physical appearance. One must be both physically and mentally strong to face these challenges and this can be achieved only by regular physical fitness habits. Teenagers who adapt good fitness regime during adolescence are likely to retain them for lifetime. A regular fitness activity not only benefits the overall physical health but also promotes strong positive body image in teenagers.

Why physical fitness is important in teenagers

• In teenage, children are subjected to high levels of stress that can be either due to studies or any other emotional situations. To reduce anxiety and regulate these stress levels, teenagers must be both physically and psychologically strong. A teenager, who is mentally fit, will be able to concentrate more on studies and exhibit greater IQ levels. • Teenage is a crucial phase in human life at which the body begins to develop. If regular fitness habits are employed, then children will have stronger bones and muscles with good physical endurance. Physical endurance is the ability of an individual to remain active for a longer period of time despite fatigue, trauma and other physical distress. • The most common problem faced by many teenagers nowadays is obesity. Obesity is caused mainly due to imbalance between the calories intake from the diet and the energy consumed during physical activity. The best way to combat the problems of obesity and overweight is to have healthy eating habits and regular physical activity. • As said earlier, good fitness habits reduce stress levels, and this eventually enables teenagers to be to more attentive towards studies. By paying more attention, kids can remember things for a longer duration which naturally improves their performance and memory power. • Apart from studies, many teenagers like to have career in sports. So, to be a good athlete one should have great body composition, a healthy heart condition and most importantly flexible muscle and bone strength. These fitness attributes can be accomplished only by following good physical activities. However, it is impossible to achieve all these things in one day, but eventually it can be done on a regular basis. • We all know, with increase in years the body changes its composition and people may face many health issues at their later ages. Teenagers must cultivate good fitness habits at early stages, so that they can overcome the problems more easily. • With recent technology advancement, many teenagers are bound to their gadgets and don't show interest in any outdoor sport. This can make them lazy and resistant from doing work. So, it is essential to make these inactive children and youth understand the importance of physical fitness and help them get over the problems of laziness and lethargy.

Best physical activity exercises

There are different recommended levels of physical activity for teenagers based on their body composition, energy levels, age and time availability. Some teens enjoy participating in group sports in public places while others prefer individual activities. Considering all these factors, physical fitness activities are broadly classified as moderate and vigorous.

• Moderate fitness activity is ideal for teenagers who have least time for activities on regular basis. This includes simple and moderate intensity exercises like cycling, brisk walk, swimming etc. • Vigorous activities are recommended depending on the individual's personal capacity. The intensity of doing exercises is very fast and this is suitable only for higher age group teens who are aspiring their careers as athletes.

Physical fitness has many benefits of overall well-being in teenagers, and implementing the right fitness program will make them more active and comfortable.
