Dress Up a Kitchen or Bath in Vintage Style

Home Improvement

In decades past, it was very chic to stay on top of all the modern appliances and trendy colors. Now however, it has become classic to look to the past and dress up the old in a new way. It can be tricky to walk the fine line between having something antique or vintage and something that just looks old and shabby. This is where a kitchen and bath showroom can help you. A showroom can give you ideas of how to make your old bathroom or kitchen look classic. Here are a few ways that you can dress your bathroom or kitchen up in a vintage look.

Fixtures

Plumbing and lighting fixtures have come a long way since the vintage, antique days. So how can you have a bathroom or kitchen that gives a healthy nod to the good old days while still being functional? Luckily, now vintage is trendy, and there are designers that are right on board with your desire to have a bathroom or kitchen that is a blast from the past. Many designers have created a look with their plumbing that looks exactly like the old plumbing with dual spigots or light fixtures that are compatible with Edison light bulbs. If you can dream it, it is likely that you can find what you need. When you go to a showroom just remind whoever is showing you around what style you are looking for.

Appliances

It can be nearly impossible to find working antique appliances for your bathroom or kitchen, but there are still ways to make your kitchen and bathroom stay on theme. Many designers have created stoves and refrigerators that function like new, but look like they are old. You can maintain the style you want without compromising safety or modern features. There are some things, of course, that that just will never look antique, like a stand mixer. However, if you keep your color palette consistent, a modern appliance can blend into the background like it belongs. You can still have all the appliances that you want even if they don't always look authentic. For your bathroom, the best way to get a vintage look is to buy cast iron tubs and sinks. You can never go wrong with this timeless look, and cast iron will last longer than you will. Keeping consistent with your antique look will increase the value of your home.

Decor

Once you have all of your appliances, fixtures, and other permanent parts of your home designed and done, you will need to think carefully about the decor choices that you make. It can be easy to hire a professional designer to come in to use a wealth of knowledge to make sure your vintage look is consistent, but it can also be fun to go in your own direction. You can peruse antique shops and flea markets to get some really great pieces at great prices, but you can also buy new things that look old. Do your research and take a tour of a kitchen and bath showroom before you make many permanent decisions. You will come up with great ideas for how to dress up your bathrooms and kitchen. You can usually find new pieces that look like they belong in a previous era, so it would be helpful to look online at items like rugs or dish sets that look like they could belong in another decade, though they are new in this one.
