Also close to Ocala is the Ocala National Forest, which is just a few miles outside of the city. This 383,000-acre area is home to hundreds of rivers, streams, and lakes for visitors to use for snorkeling, canoeing, swimming, and other water recreation. There are campsites available and many trails for visitors to hike, bike, and enjoy. The weather in this portion of the state is very mild, allowing the national forest to remain open and accessible year-round, making it yet another reason Ocala is such a desired location for a primary or secondary residence.
