Working in the medical profession changes you. The profession is a culture in itself and it is difficult to not be affected by spending so much time around bodies and their issues. Read on to find out if the following describes you. Sleep On Command The medical profession is infamous for having crazy hours. It is important for the medical staff to be on the clock for long hours so that there aren't too many shift changes in the middle of a patient's stay. Patients feel more at ease when they have stability and having someone they know on the clock helps them feel stable. However, long shifts and weird schedules can move from graveyard to day shift from week to week and take a bit of a toll on the human body. You will find that you become accustomed to the exhaustion but your body deals with it by sleeping whenever you find five extra minutes. This means you could find yourself falling asleep while eating or any other various place. You have probably found watching an entire movie to be a bit challenging. Of course, on the flip side, you probably find yourself having a hard time sleeping in bed for more than the routine hours at a time. Know the Tabloids Another marker of working in the medical field is that you are always in the know for what is going on in the tabloids. There are always several gossip magazines littering waiting rooms and lunch rooms for employees at medical jobs. They are there for patients of course, but they always seem to be the only interesting reading material on hand. If you aren't sleeping during your lunch break, you are probably going through the magazines and reading them cover to cover. So although you may feel like your social life is lacking sometimes, at least you're always in the know when you're able to get together with your friends. Medical Guru It doesn't matter if your job description is to give sponge baths or diaper changes, if you work in the medical field, you are instantly the medical guru of your social circle. You will probably find yourself giving advice to people and receiving picture texts of body parts and rashes that you never wanted to see. When you first started the job, you might have been a little disgusted or annoyed by some of these questions, but now, you probably find yourself having more knowledge about these things than you thought you would, or you at least know where to find the answer to these problems. The pictures probably don't bother you anymore either, and it becomes a contest among your coworkers as to who can come up with the oddest medical complaint. You Live in Scrubs Before you entered the ranks of people who hold medical jobs in Reno, you probably had a bit of fashion sense. Now your wardrobe consists of mostly scrubs and comfortable tennis shoes. At first you might have wanted to find any excuse to pull out your clothes from former days, but now you appreciate the respect that people give you when you wear scrubs in public. Most people have a soft spot for a nurse or assistant that helped them in the past, and you will find that you can strike up conversations with strangers easier and even get discounts when you wear these powerful clothes. Plus, they are just plain comfortable.
