5 Easy Steps to a Healthier You

With a new year here, it’s time to set some goals and improve yourself. One of the best ways to do that is by becoming more healthy in Kansas City. While you might be tempted to set some high goals, studies have shown that it’s best to start small and work your way up. Becoming healthier doesn’t have to be extreme. In fact, it can start with a few small things that are done every day. Once those things become habit, you can add a few more small things. Soon, you’ll be feeling healthier than ever.

  1. Take a brisk walk every day. It’s important to exercise and get your body moving. However, if you are struggling to make it a regular part of your schedule, consider starting out slow. Taking a walk for 30 minutes each day is a great way to get your blood pumping without over-exerting yourself. Plus, it has been shown to strengthen your heart and lower your risk of disease. If you are looking to lose weight, this is a great place to start. Not only will you be burning calories, but you’ll be toning your legs and abs, too. Plus, it’s something you can do with your kids and spouse as well as alone!
  2. Limit your sugar intake. Refined sugar, like that found in sodas and candies, as well as added sugars such as corn syrup and dextrose, aren’t needed in your diet. In fact, they can increase body weight and increase your risk of heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends that women eat fewer than 6 teaspoons a day and that men limit their intake to 9 teaspoons per day. By heeding this advice, you could lose weight and feel more energetic.
  3. Swap out your soda for a water. While you may enjoy drinking your favorite soda daily, it could be stripping your body of valuable hydration. Switch out soda for water and watch your body transform. With more water, your body will be able to better regulate your temperature, lose weight, regulate cravings, and stay more hydrated. Plus, it’s been shown to lower the risk of disease and help your skin to glow.
  4. Don’t eat after 7 PM. While it’s been shown that your body will burn the same amount of calories whether early in the morning or late at night, it’s still best to limit the amount you eat after 7 PM. This is because when you are tired, your self-control becomes weakened. This means that you could end up eating more calories than you would normally, just because you are tired. So, do yourself a favor, don’t eat late at night. You just might end up eating more than you bargained for!
  5. Eat a healthy breakfast. You’ve heard time and time again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, do you know why? A good breakfast will make up for all of those calories that your body didn’t have fueling it while you were asleep. If balanced right, it can restore the glucose levels in your body, allowing your brain to function more fully. This can lead to sharper and quicker thinking.  Eating a good breakfast can also give you more energy throughout the day, help to curb cravings, and help to lower blood pressure.

If you are looking to become healthy in Kansas City, don’t try to do too much. First, start a few small things and make them into habits. Once you begin to do them consistently, you can set new goals that might be a bit harder. No matter where you start, it’s important to do something. Making small changes will help you to see big results!
