If you’ve ever been a renter, you know how hard it is to make a space your own. There are only so many things you can hang on the wall before the outdated carpet and sad wall color bleeds through. Though there are many things you can’t do to a rental apartment, there are lots of things you can do to overhaul your apartment into looking like your own place. Here are just a few ways to spruce up your apartment and make it look more like a home than a temporary place. Family Photos Though there are a lot of ways to spruce up your home, one of the easiest ways is to add family photos to your walls. Get a matching set of gallery frames to add to a large wall, possibly in your front room, and add in pictures of you and your loved ones, travel photos, or vintage posters that you love. A great way to add a little pizzazz is to frame some of your favorite fabric, or even add a large mirror to your room. Mirrors are a great way to make your space look bigger than it truly is because of the reflection and they're a really beautiful addition to a gallery of pictures or even across your bedroom walls. Greenery One of the best ways to add some color to your space is to get some plants. If you are like some of the population, plants are difficult to take care of and frequently die. So, make sure and get a few hardier plants, like succulents and cacti. Though these are much easier to take care of, they will not only clean the air in your apartment, but will also provide some very pretty accent pieces to your tables and shelves. Lighting Most apartments come with seriously shabby options for lighting. It’s hard to see in a dingy apartment, and dingy lighting makes it all the harder to like the place you have to call home. So, be sure to take advantage of all of the lighting options already present in your apartment, but also add some of your own additions. There are many inexpensive lighting options, some of which are also stylish and can add a lot of light to a room. Table and floor lamps are beautiful ways to spruce up the way your apartment looks and can really give your rooms a much better feel. Temporary Wallpaper Lastly, temporary wallpaper is a really popular way to add a different look to your walls. Though temporary wallpaper can be expensive (a lot more expensive than traditional wallpaper), it’s a great way to add a statement wall, or even add a simple backsplash in your kitchen. There are many different types of temporary wallpaper online stores, and there are even Etsy shops that now carry temporary wallpaper. Be sure to look and see if any of the colors and patterns catch your eye for a wall or two in your new apartment. Footboards Though this won’t directly affect how your apartment or its structure will look, a footboard and a headboard will add a lot to the look of your bedroom. If you have a smaller bedroom, this may not be the best option, but it will add a very beautiful and finished look to your bedroom if your bedroom is large enough. There are many different options for headboards and footboards online, as well as in your neighborhood furniture store, but there are also a ton of DIY options. Be sure to look online for ways to create beautiful and inexpensive footboards and headboards.
