Using wood worktops or quartz worktops for kitchen refurbishments

When you are planning to give your kitchen an entirely different look, a lot of factors pop in, for instance, aesthetics, functionality, usage, maintenance cost and value addition. So, when you are choosing wood worktops or quartz worktops to give a makeover to your kitchen, you have to consider all these factors while deciding on your worktop material. In fact, a study indicates that kitchen refurbishments are the second only option after loft conversions when it comes to adding value to your property. Of course, this is not to remind you that you may need to sell your house some day, but adding value to a property is always desirable. So, it deserves a lot of careful considerations about each and every detail.

Who are you living with? Yes, this is the first thing you should keep in mind while planning any kind of decor. If you have small children or pets, imposing the risk of harming themselves with sharp edges then it’s better to go with worktop materials that are safe for use in all situations. Wood worktops would definitely be a suitable choice. Quartz worktops may not have sharp edges but they are stones nonetheless which hurt more than timber if accidentally stumbled upon.

What kind of a cook are you? If you are planning to use your kitchen occasionally and spend most of your time out of home then wood worktops would do just fine. Use a chopping board as wood develops scratches easily. In case, you are a meticulous and passionate cook who loves to experiment with recipes then let it be quartz worktops for you. Quartz being naturally hard makes it easier to withstand pressure and temperature differences but that doesn’t rule out the fact that you can use it in any way you want without considering the consequences. As for stains, quartz is easier to clean than wood if stained for some reason.

Worktops complementing kitchen lighting Shinier and polished surfaces will reflect light and make your kitchen look spacious and bright, especially if you have a small space to plan with. Quartz worktops suit these kinds of situations the best. On the other hand, if you have a large kitchen space, with lots of natural light filling it, then you can choose wood worktops in combination with steel for apt functionality and flexibility of usage.

Kitchen maintenance issues Solid hardwood worktops no doubt top the table from the perspective of aesthetics but you have to invest time and effort to keep it looking great for years to come. Sealing is to be applied as directed. Stains can be a cause of headache if not removed immediately and it is better to prevent chopping on it directly to prevent scratches. Quartz worktops are stain and scratch resistant, non-porous and very easy to clean and maintain.

So, keep the above mentioned facts in mind while choosing either one from quartz worktops or wood worktops. It will help you in making the right investment. Your budget can also be a factor for your choice.

When it comes to maintenance, wood worktops ask for more attention than quartz worktops.
