It's been fifteen years since the disaster that was second impact. The aftermath is still in full effect, leaving parts of the world inhabitable. Humanity survived, and is moving on. However, there is a new threat to their existence. It is outlined in sacred documents known as the Dead Sea Scrolls that mystical monsters known as angels will attack one by one. Modern technology will be no match for such monsters. NERV, a militaristic organization, is on the forefront of the battle. They are using a brand new technology to fight back, or so they hope. The evangelion series is humanities only hope. They are powerful enough to fight off the angels, they can neutralize their AT fields, the only problem is that they need a pilot. This is where we meet Shinji Ikari. Shinji is your average student living in the new city. He tends to keep to himself, but when he is summoned to NERV by his father, he starts to question why. After an unfortunate instance that left his mother gone, Gendo, his father, abandoned him. Shinji, for some reason, agreed to make the journey to NERV. He finds out that the only reason his father wants him there is so he can pilot Evangelion Unit 01, his father states that he now "has a use for him." Shinji initially refused to pilot the machine / monster. It's after he sees what his replacement pilot would be, in the form of a severely injured Rei, that he agrees. The fight with the third angel, known as Sachiel, goes about how you would expect. After suffering severe injuries, the Eva goes dark and Shinji passed out while piloting. Then the unexpected happens, the Eva starts moving on its own. It goes, what its known as by NERV, "berserk". The Eva fights off the angel in a beast-like fashion, taking no orders from the pilot. This is met by shock by all except for Gendo, who only smiles. After the fight we see a blurred version of the Eva, those in the NERV control center are horrified and say it must be the Eva's "true form." For some reason, Shinji continues to pilot the Eva after that. He thinks that if he does a good enough job, he will gain the approval of his father. This is how the rest of the story goes, he is joined by a couple of other pilots (Rei and Asuka), and they are tasked with making sure the angels are destroyed. Each angel that comes is more complicated and powerful than the next, so it takes all of their physical and mental abilities to make sure that they win. We also get to see Shinji come out of his shell a little bit as his relationship with the other pilots progress, and he actually makes a couple of friends at school. The journey is a tough one throughout the series, but it is well worth it. As a whole, I would recommend this anime series to anyone who likes drama / action. The show has some funny moments, but it is mostly either action or drama. You get to go through what each pilot experiences physically and mentally throughout the show, which gets pretty gruesome toward the end. In fact, you'll feel sorry for all of them by the end. To go along with the series, there is also a couple of movies and a rebuild series. I recommend checking them out as well! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Written By: Kyle Hawk You can find a random anime series of your own if you can't find one to watch!
