5 Signs You May Need to Hire a Plumber

Home Repair

Though many people consider themselves amateur plumbers, there are certain plumbing problems that require calling in a professional. A clogged drain may be something you can handle, but damaged septic tanks and broken sewer lines are not simple repairs. Some plumbing problems are obvious and others build up slowly over time, but when you notice these problems in your commercial building, you shouldn’t hesitate to call a professional for commercial plumbing in Marietta. Waiting too long or assuming you can take care of the problem may result in further damage, which will ultimately cost you. If you notice any of these 5 signs, you should call a plumber as soon as possible:

Wet Grass

If it hasn’t been a particularly wet season, but the grass outside your building is soggy and soft; it may be a sign that you have broken pipes. It may also be a sign that a septic tank is having problems. In either situation, you’ll want to contact a plumber as soon as possible to assess the damages and begin the repairs. The longer it goes without a fix, the further the damage will spread.

Dark Patches

Dark wet patches on the walls or ceiling, especially in the bathrooms, are signs of leaking pipes. While the drips or damage may seem insignificant, even small leaks can cause major damage to the structure of your building. They can also lead to mold, which will rot away at the walls and floors. If you notice water spots or dampness, you should call a plumber before the damage requires large, expensive repairs.

Dripping Faucet

A leaky faucet is not just an annoyance; it’s also a business cost. The constant flow of water coming from even a slow-dripping faucet can quickly add up to a steep water bill. Since pressure pushes water through the pipes to your tap, washers are used to keep that water from coming out of the faucet once you turn off the tap. These washers sometimes dislodge, tear, or stiffen, which causes the faucet to drip. If you have a leak, you may be able to replace the washer yourself, but it can be quite challenging without specialized tools. If you don’t have these tools, you may want to contact a plumber.

Weak Water Pressure

Using a sink with low water pressure can be a frustrating experience. The most common cause of low water pressure is buildup of mineral deposits and sediments on the faucet’s aerator. To fix the problem, you need to remove the aerator and soak it overnight in vinegar in order to dissolve any calcium buildup. If you cannot remove your the faucet head or aerator, you should contact a plumber to take care of it. Additionally if after removing and cleaning your aerator the pressure hasn’t improved, you should call a plumber to identify the cause.

Funny Smells

Clogged or improperly ventilated drainpipes can cause your drains to emit an odd smell that will waft through your home. Unpleasant smells coming from the drainage could also be a sign of a blocked or broken sewer line, which is not a problem you want to have for very long. If the scent is accompanied by a gurgling noise, it could also indicate sewage backflow, in which case you should contact a plumber immediately.

Plumbing problems aren’t fun, and if you let them get too far out of hand, they can be expensive. Even if you are handy with most quick fixes, there are certain situations that demand a professional. To avoid future costs and future grief, contact a professional for commercial plumbing in Marietta when you notice any of these signs.
