Getting Your HVAC Unit Ready for Summer

Business

With the heat beginning to creep in, you’re probably getting ready to flip the switch on your thermostat from heat to cool. However, if you wait until temperatures rise to test out your HVAC in Loganville, you could be left with a unit that doesn’t cool as it should. Don’t be caught sweating once the sun gets hot. Instead, take the time to prepare your system for the warm weather in advance. Here are 7 ways to ensure that your system is ready to go.

  1. Turn it on to ensure that there are no obvious problems. The first thing you need to do in order to ensure that your air conditioning system is ready for summer is to turn it on. If there are any major issues, you’ll probably be able to hear them. Plus, if your system doesn’t turn on at all, it’s better to know that now instead of when it’s blazing hot outside. If you notice a problem, don’t wait to get them fixed. You never know what could be preventing your unit from functioning properly.
  2. Change the filters. The filter in your HVAC system helps to keep the air in your home clean and free of dust and allergens. However, if not replaced regularly, you may find that it affects your health and your utility bill. A dirty filter can impact how hard your system has to work in order to cool your home. As a rule of thumb, change your filter monthly. It’s best to start the season off with a brand new filter to ensure that you start the summer season off with the coolest and cleanest air possible.
  3. Clear the condensation lines. Often times, the pipes which carry condensation for your air conditioner can become plugged. If this happens and isn’t resolved quickly, it could get backed up and become messy. To keep things clean, find the pipe where the condensation drains out. Then, use an algaecide to clean the pipe out. This should be done yearly.
  4. Invest in a good thermostat. A programmable thermostat might seem like an unnecessary expense. However, it could end up saving you hundreds on your utility bill and keep your system running more efficiently. These thermostats can be programmed to maintain a certain temperature at different times during the day, depending on the temperature outside.
  5. Check the concrete around your system. The cement that your HVAC system sits on should be completely level. An unleveled surface will cause your unit to work extra hard to maintain your home’s desired temperature. Be sure to level out any dips or grooves in the ground to ensure that you get the most out of your AC unit.
  6. Keep the exterior unit clean and clear. Be sure to trim back any plants or grass that could be in the way of your exterior HVAC unit. They could be reducing its performance. It’s a good idea to to inspect your unit monthly during the summer months to ensure that no leaves or debris get build up around it.
  7. Call a professional for tune-ups and repairs. Your air conditioner will run better if it gets a checkup every once and a while. However, for tune ups and repairs, you shouldn’t try to do it by yourself. Call in a professional to handle the intricate HVAC system which powers your home.

Keeping your home cool this summer should be a priority. However, don’t wait until the sun gets hot to make sure that your HVAC in Loganville working as it should. Get your system up and running beforehand. Then, call an HVAC repair company if needed in order to get things cooling down.
