Being a parent is by far one of the most exhausting yet rewarding jobs. Parenting a toddler just increases the stress level, but being a preschool teacher to little preschoolers requires even more energy and patience. Little children can be so much fun. They have a special spirit about them that allows them to remain carefree about the important things. As a preschool teacher, you need to have a lot of attributes to have a successful class. Kids require patience, compassion, understanding, sympathy, and many other characteristics of a teacher. What are some ways that the teachers at a Santa Ana preschool have been successful with their classes? Getting Children to Listen The benefit of a preschool teacher is the fact that he or she is just that—a teacher. Kids tend to listen better to an adult figure that isn’t their parent. There’s just something about listening to a parent that doesn’t seem the least bit important or intriguing to a child. The respect level changes for a teacher, but only if the teacher demands respect. Teachers also have so many tips and tricks that they develop over time to help children learn and enjoy an efficient classroom. Of course, time will also help this to improve. Just like any other job, you get better over time and find ways that make sense for you and your work ethic. Consistent Discipline When a child sees a consistent pattern of discipline behaviors at school, they understand that the teacher means it and won’t be treating anyone differently. At home it is much easier for a parent to discipline children differently, depending on the mood and atmosphere of the home. A parent may also be struggling a little more with a particular child, and it may be difficult to stay consistent with structure. Teachers develop all sorts of different counting methods that help the children to understand the consequences if what the teacher has asked is not completed. The consequences are expected because of the follow-through on the teacher’s end. Common Mistakes A common mistake that parents make is misreading how they should get a point across to their child. If a parent is mad, he or she may raise their voice in hopes that the child will quickly apologize and never make the same mistake again. Unfortunately, it doesn’t turn out to be that easy. It’s possible that children with vocal parents may actually be the ones to struggle more than those with parents that don’t raise their voices. Teachers understand this mentality a little better because they are more aware of children and their cues after working with them on a daily basis. In essence, a child wants to be loved no matter where they go. They don’t want to be yelled at, but be treated like a young adult and shown how to fix an issue without getting a loud earful. Kids are also not the greatest at retaining information and then being able to complete the action. Some kids learn differently and need a variety of cues to help their ability increase. Younger children also learn better when education is mixed into some sort of fun. Doing basic math or learning how to read letters isn’t fun if there isn’t a game made out of it. With preschool being the beginning age of learning, it’s important to imprint a positive light and image so the future years aren’t stressful. Utilizing colors, blocks, shapes, rewards, and all kinds of things to help a child become better at any area can do this. A Santa Ana preschool is designed to make sure your child is getting the care and attention that he or she needs.
