Why not take a day trip and travel back to visit? Castillo Monumento Colomares This fairy tale castle is one of the most stunning tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol. Despite its castle-like appearance, it was actually built between 1987 and 1994 as a monument to honour the adventures and discoveries of Christopher Columbus. The castle is a veritable collection of styles, architecturally speaking, and an incredible combination of Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Mudéjar. Wandering around you see lots of features representing the historic journeys of the great explorer. Wonderfully photogenic, the inside of the castle is also worth a visit. Calaburras Lighthouse Lighthouses make very romantic photographs and the Calaburras Lighthouse is no exception. Standing tall, at 29m high, on the Punta de Calaburras, on the way from Málaga Airport to Marbella, this is the major beacon in the region, guiding ships though the Straits of Gibraltar. The lighthouse has been controlled electronically since 1949, and it is hard to believe that the flashing light can be seen from over 28 nautical miles away. Stop and Take A Look: You can’t go inside the lighthouse but you can get up close to it, so you can take photos from all angles. Cost: Free Parque La Batería This park, on the way from Málaga Airport to Marbella is a great place to come back to during your stay. Just a short walk from the station at Montemar, the park is the perfect place to escape for peace, quiet and relaxation. Beautifully well kept gardens surround a large boating lake where you can hire boats. There is a lovely play area for the kids and the facilities are very clean and well serviced. The big draw here for photographers is the stunning view over the Mediterranean, which changes throughout the day, but never loses any of its captivating charm.
