When taking your children to the dentist, you have two basic options--a family dentist or a pediatric dentist. A family dentist has a unique benefit for children who are fearful of the dentist because those children can see the same dentist that everyone in the family sees and can therefore get used to the dentist over multiple visits prior to having to have a turn. Here are 4 tips for helping your child get used to dental care in Peachtree City when using a family dentist. - Bring your child with you each time anyone in the family needs to go to the dentist. This will help your child become more familiar with the dentist, the building, the sounds, and tools that the dentist uses.
- Each time you go to the dentist, see if you can take a moment to have your child sit in the chair and go for a ride up and down. Learning what it feels like to sit in the big chair can be helpful for when it’s time to lay back and open up for a cleaning.
- Have the dentist count your child’s teeth as a way of introducing the child to having dental tools in his mouth. This can also help to get your child excited about taking care of his teeth and learn that the dentist is a nice person.
- Use the weighted x-ray blankets to help your child feel grounded and comfortable during a dental visit. This extra weight can help your child feel calmer and can make the dental visit much more enjoyable for everyone.
Finally, don’t give up if your child is afraid of the dentist. Keep bringing him back, keep making each experience a positive one, and make dental care in Peachtree City an important part of your child’s life.
