Often bridesmaids complain that the bride wants to intentionally give an ugly look to the bridesmaids because she wants undivided attention on that day. Usually it is the bride who gives the direction on what the bridesmaids will wear. Usually they stick to long, cocktail gowns but sometimes bridesmaids feel that the cut or the length is not suitable for their frame. Often the colour scheme chosen by the bride is not appropriate for their complexion. But ultimately you love her. She is your friend or family. For her happiness, you cannot overrule her choices. You end up wearing what she selected. Even though you are being thoughtful about the bride, do not be unfair to yourself. If you do not like the colour given to you, change your make up. If you do not like the cut of the dress, accessorize accordingly. Similarly if you do not like long bridesmaid dresses or you think the dress allotted to you looks more like homecoming dresses, you have a chance to still look fabulous. Follow these tips to change the boring tone of the long bridesmaid dresses: - As a bridesmaid you already know there will be mismanagements all over the wedding but your job is to calm down and think of the best solution whatever the issue is. Similarly if you are given a long bridesmaid dress that you are not comfortable in, you have to think of a possible cover up. The key is to add a twist in the tale. Wear a tiara that drags attention from your dress or wear jewellery that makes a bolder statement than your dress.
- Firstly she is the bride so she will have a strong opinion over everything. So just tally with her list about what are the things which are not negotiable at all. She might say that you cannot wear any jewellery but you already thought you will cover the hideous dress with a good pair of earrings or a beautiful set of neckpiece. In such a case, you can put on a shrug or jacket with embellishments. That is not jewellery and yet it will draw enough attention to overlook the problem with your dress.
- You have to wear the dress as per the bride’s desire only as long as the ceremony is going on. You can definitely modify your outfit after it. Fold the straps down or cut the straps and give it a halter look. Pin up some layers of the dress to change the long, flowing look. Then probably you can later use these as homecoming dresses.
- You can also turn heads in a boring dress if you look flawless. Make sure you have a funky or immaculate hair do. Make a braid or pin it up and let a few tresses linger on your shoulder. Wear makeup that accentuates your features and does not let people look beyond your face.
These are the tricks that will work if you are stuck with boring, fidgety, long bridesmaid dresses. But remember the key to looking gorgeous is not what you are wearing. Whatever clothes you are wearing, you should be comfortable in it, and feel confident about the look. Wear the dress; don’t let the dress wear you.
