Established in 2015, the Massachusetts Smoke Free Association (MASFA) is a consumer advocacy group and trade organization. It is a 501c6 not-for-profit organization supported completely by donations from local vendors and manufacturers as well as consumers and supporters united under a common goal. This goal is education and support for customers and organizations seeking to promote Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR). Tobacco Harm Reduction The THR movement is a movement to effectively help tobacco users quit. Ask any avid smoker you know how many times they have tried to quit. There are several traditional methods out there like hypnosis, the patch, cold turkey, and Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Unfortunately, traditional methods fail 7 out of 10 times. Vapor cigarettes in Boston, MA, have proven more effective in helping tobacco users stop smoking. Through education and alternative product promotion, the THR movement seeks to reduce tobacco consumption as well as the harmful effects associated with tobacco use. Tobacco users are more likely to develop lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer and heart disease, just to name a few. Are you ready to quit now? Tobacco Legislation The MASFA works in partnership with local governments and health organizations in Boston. They are always on the watch for new legislations that have the potential to increase or decrease the effects of Tobacco Harm Reduction movement. Most recently in the news, the Massachusetts Senate approved a proposed bill in favor of raising the tobacco buying age to 21. This is a huge win for MASFA. If it passes the House and the governor's desk it will reduce tobacco access to high school students and youth, who have a higher potential for addiction.
