Repainting the interior of your home is the perfect way to spruce things up without spending an arm and a leg. While a repaint in Smyrna won’t cost you nearly as much as a complete remodel, it does demand a certain amount of preparation. - Move furniture out of the room. Painting a room is much more difficult when you are trying to maneuver around tables and chairs. Before you start painting, remove all of the furniture from the room. Not only does this make it easier to reach every part of the room, but it protects your furniture from paint spills and splashes.
- Protect your flooring. Just as removing the furniture is an important way to protect it from paint, covering your floors is vital as well. Laying down drop cloths is a great way to protect carpet and hardwood floors from paint splatters. While plastic sheets are cheap, they can easily be punctured or torn. Heavy canvases are better. Also, be sure to place a few pieces of newspaper underneath your roller tray to prevent any spills from causing damage.
- Remove wall hangings. Even if you are repainting your walls with the same color as before, it’s still a good idea to remove your wall hangings. Not only is it time-consuming to try and paint around them, but paint could end up destroying your beautiful décor.
- Patch any necessary holes. If you are redecorating, there may be holes where paintings used to be. Be sure to patch any dents, dings, or holes before you start painting. If your walls are texturized, you’ll want to add that on beforehand as well.
- Clean the walls. It might seem silly to clean a wall that’s just going to be painted over. However, clean surfaces produce a smoother, uniform look. If you don’t clean them, you could end up with a dust-covered paint job that looks and feels rough.
- Remove outlet covers and switch plates. While you might be tempted to paint around all of the switch plates in the room, don’t do it. This can result in brush marks around the outlets or smearing paint on the cover itself. Once the paint is dry, refasten the switch plates back to the wall. The paint job will look much cleaner and more professional.
If you are looking to repaint in Smyrna, it’s important to prepare adequately. Whether hiring a professional or doing it yourself, make sure that your new paint color turns out exactly how you want it by following these steps.
