Honda has been a juggernaut in the manufacturing industry since it started building motorcycles in 1959. Over the last 60 years, they’ve developed everything from cars and airplanes to lawn mowers and solar panels. In 2001, they became the second largest car manufacturer in Japan and in 2011 they were the eighth largest in the world. Their latest revamp of the Acura NSX continues the tradition of combining high-end luxury with high-end performance. The First Generation The NSX (New SportscareXperimental) was born out of the HP-X (Honda PininfarinaeXperimental) prototype in 1984. With the concept modeled after an F-16 fighter jet, the NSX was designed to go up against the Ferrari 348. The 2.0L V6 in the HP-X was swapped for the 3.0L VTEC V6 for exactly this reason. The NSX was also the first all-aluminium semi-monocoque unit body with aluminum framing and suspension that saved almost 450 pounds. The Honda NSX line-up was discontinued in 2005 only to be later revamped under the Acura umbrella. The Next Generation On January 12th, 2015, Honda debut the new Acura NSX at the North American International Auto Show. Sticker priced started at $156,000 for a base model and $205,000 for all the bells and whistles. It featured a 500 bhp, twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine with a 9-speed dual clutch and AWD system. Top speed was clocked at 191 mph and 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. Acura made several modifications to its original 2012 concept design, like lengthening the body for aerodynamics, but overall, the second-generation NSX is a worthy successor to the name. The first production car rolled off the line in May of 2016 with its proud owner, Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports, waiting anxiously.
