Our cholesterol level in the body comes mainly from two sources; most of it comes from the body's own natural production of cholesterol. Our liver produces a percentage and the other part comes from the diet we are on. Cholesterol is only found in animal based food we consume and not in plant food. Most of the time our cholesterol level, good or bad, depends on the type of our diet. The two types of cholesterol in our body are LDL (the "bad" type) cholesterol, and HDL (the "good" type) cholesterol. This only becomes a problem when your LDL is too high. This is not to say that the lower the HDL (good cholesterol) the healthier you will be. The body needs cholesterol to survive, yet the correct balance is important. What we need is more of the good HDL cholesterol which is important for our heart health and arteries. Lowering cholesterol levels seems an ongoing struggle for many that suffer with this type of illness. Most people believe the lower the cholesterol level the better the health benefits. Cholesterol in our body is important for production of cell membranes, vitamins and acids to digest fats. Experts are saying that this drug can drop the level so low that it can kill a person as well as increase the risk of many diseases. As with many such medication only time will tell of the risks involved and damage it will do. Lowering of cholesterol levels has become a common concern for anyone affected; almost everyone knows someone struggling with this issue.
