For some people thinking about sleeping on a mattress that may be infected with bed bugs can make them shiver. A few years ago talking about bed bugs on the news was something you could almost expect on a daily basis. For some it made them rethink staying in hotels for fear of bringing them home with them. Yes, they can be hard to get rid of but if you choose the best bedbug exterminator they will know how to get rid of them. Bed bugs are hard to see because they are less than a fourth-of-an-inch long and often hide during the daylight hours. They are a brown wingless parasite that feeds off blood. Bed bugs do prefer to bit a human but if necessary they will feed from other mammals. They get their name from the fact that they are often found in unsanitary bedding and mattresses but they can also be found in cracks in the wall and in carpets. They are known to travel in your luggage or clothing to other locations.
When choosing a bed bug exterminator make sure that they know how to deal with them because the exterminator process is more specialized. Most exterminators will use several different methods to exterminate the bed bugs. Which methods they will use depends on how often the person comes into contact with a specific location and the situation. Before hiring an exterminator ask them how the process will work. They should start by doing a visual inspection of the house, paying very close attention to any problem areas. Once they have done that they should be able to recommend a treatment plan. It will usually involve many steps and possibly several visits.
Before hiring a bed bug exterminator look at the methods they will use. Bed bugs are often located on, or in, surfaces that you are in contact with often. The exterminator should use pesticide to end the infestation in some areas and steam treatment to get rid of bed bugs that have infested the upholstery and bedding. The reason for steam treatment in these areas is that the pesticide could be harmful to humans so you do not want to have that used on any area or surface that a human will be in contact with. If the exterminator is not equipped for steam treatments this could be a sign that they do not have enough experience getting rid of bed bugs so you should look for another company. If the infestation is bad you may have to get rid of your old mattress. You should take all your bedding and wash in hot water and when dry put them in a large bag to avoid reinfestation.
