Many of Berkshire's tourist attractions are open all year round. For example, in Newbury there is the Kennet museum as well as the property where Downton Abbey was filmed from, Highclere Castle. Highclere Castle is about 5 miles south of Newbury and as well as looking around the house, ther are the gardens and woodlands, which are well worth a good walk around. The setting itself if stunning and you can always be sure of there being an exhibition being run. At present, they are running their Egyptian Exhibition, based around the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun. For something a little more regular, there are also the ongoing, weekly farmers markets in the town. These really do all bring out the best of the community. For families, there are also a range of things to do in West Berkshire, including Park, Bucklebury Farm Park and MFA Bowl and Soft Play. The area is very much child friendly in a great variety of ways. There are also three theatres in the town as well as the cinema; perfect for being able to keep up to date with the latest films being shown. For something a little different and alternative, the area offers superb fishing on the River Kennet, inspiring walks across the Berkshire Downs or relaxing trips on the Kennet and Avon Canal. All for free, there are other attractions, most notably which include the chance to explore Donnington Castle, Greenham Common and Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre. Newbury , overall is the main town and area within West Berkshire. It is a most attractive market town with a nice and friendly setting. The area borders Hampshire to the south, Wiltshire to the west, Oxfordshire to the north and both the Reading and Wokingham authorities to the east. It is also well located in great proximity to London as well the major airports. West Berkshire is also likewise close to the main, major coastal towns and areas.
