From the street, the first thing passersby notice are the curtains of green hanging from the sides of the building. Crepe Myrtle, Jasmine, and Orange Blossom open their flowers over the busy streets of Tokyo from uniquely designed, double-walled balconies. Inside, conference rooms are enclosed by rows of hanging tomato vines while benches serve as growing boxes for bean sprouts. Whole rooms are dedicated to growing lettuce, rice, broccoli, onion, and much more, all inside the decorative outlines of modern office feng shui. Pasona HQ is the largest farm-to-table office complex with all of its fresh produce supplying the employee cafeteria in addition to employing a team of gardeners to tend to the unique crops. Green Office Makeovers Corporations are looking to designers like Kono for inspiration in designing their own office green spaces. Rooftop sanctuaries are becoming increasing popular on city skylines. They can be customized easily with potted topiaries, raised flower beds, and hydroponic gardens. Office landscaping trends include more outdoor break areas for employees to escape. Corporate planners are also more mindful of water conservation. Landscaping that requires less water while still providing beauty and shade is a plus for curb and client appeal. Potted plants, ornamental grasses, and even small, fruit-bearing trees grow just as well indoors and provide employees with an aesthetically pleasing work environment.
