Former Home Secretary Theresa May's move into 10 Downing Street has been warmly greeted by the recruitment sector, with many industry observers hopeful of a more stable environment in which businesses regain the confidence to invest in job creation.
May was the last candidate left standing after her opponent – energy minister Andrea Leadsom – withdrew from the contest to succeed David Cameron, who announced last month that he would resign.
Hope for a more stable hiring climate
Among those to salute May's rise to Number 10 was Peter Searle, chief executive at oil and gas recruiter Airswift. He told Recruiter that May's appointment "is good from the point of view in that it's going to create stability and hopefully unify the government – give them a clear set of policies as opposed to a situation we've had for the last few weeks. "What’s going to be good for the recruitment market is that markets will settle down, now there is certainty about who is going to be running the government and who is going to be appointed to the position of PM." This viewpoint was backed by David Hay - director at Estrelas Resourcing, a recruitment agency that assists international clients with setting up in the UK.
Hay said that his concern would have been much greater if the arrival of a new PM had been delayed until the autumn, given the uncertainty this would have created for business. He urged May to prioritise the encouragement of inward investment into the UK.
Meanwhile, Amanda Fisackerly – director at IT recruiter Fizz Recruitment – stated her belief that the installation of May at Number 10 would make the hiring of employees easier, whether they were from Britain or abroad.

Such sentiments have been expressed across the recruitment sector in response to May's rise to the premiership, indicating that if there is any good time post-referendum for those across the logistics and supply chain industries to recommence their recruitment drives, it is now.
