Cherrystone Auctions is currently accepting bids for a live public auction to be held on August 9th and 10th of 2016, the auction house has announced. Auctioned off will be rare stamps and other philatelic collectibles—that is, materials related to stamps and postal history—from around the world.
Cherrystone has additionally released information regarding the structure of the upcoming auction. The auction will feature over 1600 lots—a lot is an individual item or, occasionally, a grouping of items—that will be spread out evenly over the two-day bidding process based on their national origin. Stamps and stamp-related collectibles from current as well as historic political entities will be sold over four sessions.
The first bidding session, beginning on Tuesday, August 9th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time, will feature roughly 400 lots of stamps from the United States, Albania, China and Fezzan. The second session of about 400 lots will begin the same day at 1:00 PM and will include stamps from Finland, France & historic French Colonies, Germany and the German area and Great Britain and the British Commonwealth.
Bidding will resume the next day, Wednesday, August 10th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time with another 400 or so lots, these stamps coming from Greece, Iran, Italy, Japan, Poland and Romania. The fourth and final session will follow at 1:00 PM with stamps from Russia, Spain, Switzerland and a grouping of Large Lots and Collections. Bids on all lots are currently being accepted online on Cherrystone’s website, listed below. Potential bidders and interested parties can also view pictures, details and the current bidding price of each lot online.
Cherrystone Auctions was originally founded as a retail store in 1967. Since then, it has evolved over more than 40 years into one of the world’s leading auctioneers of rare stamps and philatelic material. Located in the heart of New York City, Cherrystone is a member of all major United States and European Philatelic Societies, among them are ASDA, APS, U.S. Philatelic Classics Society and Collectors Club of New York.
The auction house brings over $30 million worth of stamps and postal-related collectibles to market each year. Their auctions, held on a consistent basis several times per year, feature stamps from around the world of particular rarity and quality. In addition to auctions, Cherrystone occasionally holds “Specialty” sales, often the award-winning collections of single owners. Among these famous collections auctioned off by Cherrystone were the Garfield Collectin of United States Postal Stationery, the Andrew Cronin Collection of Worldwide Postal History and the S. Shtern Collection of the Soviet Union.
Cherrystone’s leadership staff includes Paul Buchsbayew as President and Joshua Buchsbayew as Vice President. The leaders credit the auction house’s success to a combination of decades of experience in the business and personal passion for stamps. Paul is a member of the A.I.E.P. (Association Internationale des Experts Philatelie) and an expert in Russian material while Joshua’s primary interest is in United States Classics.
Parties interested in selling their collections through Cherrystone or who have questions about how to purchase from the auction house are encouraged to contact Paul or Joshua directly.
