Lanzarote is famous for its beautiful white sandy beaches, its vibrant cultural scene, its endless array of bars and restaurants – and, believe it or not – for cycling! If you are a keen cyclist, or would like to try out a new hobby while on holiday, then read on to learn more about some of the most stunning cycle paths that the island has to offer! Fast Facts About Cycling in Lanzarote • Lanzarote has brilliant conditions for road cycling because of the smooth tarmac, minimal traffic, and the mild climate all year round (the island is a lot drier than its Canary Island counterparts, Tenerife and Gran Canaria). • September – May is the best time to visit for your cycling trip, as the temperatures for cycling are ideal (it can reach above 40 degrees Celsius from June – August). However, November is the wettest month, and January the coldest (but still warm enough for cycling). • Lanzarote is, however, rather windy all year round. Be prepared for your cycling trip and check both the weather and wind forecast in advance of your journey. • Choose your route wisely – there are some nice, gentle slopes with stunning views, but other more challenging routes with steep climbs. Which Route is Best for Me? If you prefer more of a scenic cycle with very little incline, rather than a sweat-inducing climb, I would recommend the following two routes for you to enjoy: 1. Playa Blanca – El Golfo – Playa Blanca This is the perfect loop for those cyclists who want to take it easy and just enjoy the ride without too much of a challenge. An ideal route for being exposed to some stunning views of Salinas de Janubio. 40km round loop. 2. La Santa – Soo – Famara – La Santa This is another fairly short cycle ride, but with slightly more of an incline at points. Enjoy cycling one of the most popular climbs in Lanzarote on the road heading east from La Santa. Also a 40km round loop.
