Perth, WA, Australia - The figures are shocking; one in three Australian women will experience anxiety and one in five will experience depression (https://www.beyondblue.org.au) . As a child Megan felt extremely shy and was anxious about things at school. She experienced her first major anxiety attack around the age of 18. She described it as feeling like she was having a heart attack and couldn’t breathe. The practitioners at The Perth Brain Centre, which includes psychologists and other experts in brain-based therapies, see many people like Megan. Daniel Lane, Clinical Director at The Centre, said that stories like Megan’s are all too common. “It’s tragic that women’s lives are effectively being put on hold by anxiety and depression when there are effective treatments available” he commented. Once such therapy, Trans-Cranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), is a ground- breaking approach which uses a gentle electrical current to stimulate a specific area of the brain to reduce depression. At The Perth Brain Centre they combine tDCS with other traditional approaches like counselling with qualified psychologists.
