Your yard has endured a scorching summer. Now that the temperature is starting to drop, it’s time to rejuvenate your lawn and get it ready for fall. The care that you give your grass through the cool season will ensure that your lawn looks perfectly green once spring has sprung. To get your Reno landscaping ready for next year, here are a few things that your lawn needs now. - Keep watering. Many homeowners make the mistake of shutting off their irrigation too soon. It’s important to continue watering each week. This sustains growth and ensures that the roots of your grass are getting the nutrition that they need.
- Only mow when needed. Once things cool off, you don’t need to mow your lawn nearly the same amount. In fact, you should only mow your lawn if it gets longer than 3 inches. If you do need to cut it, be sure to keep the length at around 2 inches. Doing this allows the grass to maintain the nutrition that it needs to sustain itself through the winter.
- Keep your yard free of leaves. When the leaves turn brown and fall off of the trees, be sure to pull out your rake. Leaves that pile up prevent the rain and sunlight from getting to your grass. If left for long enough, they may even kill your grass.
- Fertilize your lawn. September and October are the perfect months for fertilizing your Reno lawn. It helps to keep your lawn healthy while dormant.
- Aerate your grass. In the fall, be sure to have your lawn aerated. This allows the roots of your grass to breathe and absorb the water needed to continue growth all year long.
By following these Reno landscaping tips, your lawn will look good not only during the summer, but all year round.
