ISLAND didn’t turn into the stunning 20-storey apartment and penthouses complex that it is now overnight - indeed, it has taken considerable work to develop the building into some of the most prestigious and in-demand Accommodation in Croydon. Believe it or not, construction of what is now known as ISLAND began almost a decade ago now. It has been quite the journey since then... A story of real ups and downs Construction began in 2007 when the project was known as IYLO. The building process continued at a steady pace until 2009, when its original funding source sadly went into administration amid the then-ongoing global financial crisis. From this point on, much uncertainty gripped the ISLAND project. Construction restarted in late 2010, only to stop again in the middle of 2011 after the construction company also entered administration. At something of a low point for the building, some saw this lack of progress as an opportunity to vandalise IYLO, spraying the lower floors and hoardings of the building with graffiti. On April 2012, the construction crane was removed from the site. Despite this bleak period for the project, a number of the apartments that had been fitted with the dazzling exterior glass that remains a part of the building today already displayed ‘Sold’ signs. However, some apartments on the lower floors had been left with timber or plastic coverings as the wider community of Croydon awaited further word on the building's future. ISLAND had a bright future, despite the odds Construction at the IYLO site was expected to begin again in late 2012 but did not, in fact, recommence until June 2013. However, thanks to the sale of the site to new owners, the building now had an estimated completion of 2015 and a fresh new name; ISLAND. The completion of this final stage of construction resulted in the ISLAND that is widely admired by Croydon residents today, with the vast majority of its apartments and penthouses now sold. So if you would also like to benefit from luxurious accommodation, exclusive facilities and true London skyline living, why not get in touch with us today about one of ISLAND's few remaining apartments and penthouses?
