To avoid this, the pool water must be drained below the skimmer mouth, the pump and filter must be disconnected, and all water must be thoroughly drained from the pump and your heater. Also, blow out the return plumbing and the main drain line to ensure no water is left in the pipes to freeze. Cover If you don’t have a winter cover, purchase one. It's much stronger than a summer cover and can withstand the weight of any snow or ice as well as protect you or your pets from falling through the cover into the water.
