The Eisenhower Fellowship was established in 1995 when more than 100 emerging leaders from China came to the United States to exchange ideas and promote international collaboration. With the launch of the Zhi-Xing program in 2015, leaders from multiple U.S. sectors visit China to meet with peer executives, address professional audiences, tour facilities, dialogue with national experts and explore collaborative opportunities. Among the 2016 Eisenhower Fellows selected for this prestigious program, two Fellows hail from Washington, DC and share a common interest in U.S.-China entrepreneurship. Jack Bienko promotes entrepreneurship education at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) while Carrie Rich leads The Global Good Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports the leadership development of social entrepreneurs across the globe, currently working in 25 countries. Jack Bienko is SBA's Deputy for Entrepreneurship Education, leveraging national networks and innovative partnerships. He is active in national associations, public service task forces and entrepreneurial communities across the United States. Mr. Bienko's pursuit of best practices and innovative models of service delivery and educational support for entrepreneurs led to his Eisenhower Fellowship mission. “My aim is to rapidly explore China's impressive agenda to spur innovation at the national and sub-national levels while also engaging with thought leaders and practitioners throughout my journey. I am excited to build relationships that will foster exchanges and connect businesses in both countries,” said Mr. Bienko. Carrie Rich co-founded The Global Good Fund with the hypothesis that investing in the leadership of high potential young people is the most effective strategy for addressing society's most complex social challenges and achieving global good. Ms. Rich was recently recognized as an EY Entrepreneur of the Year and received a $2.2 million grant from the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation to create jobs for people over 50 in the U.S. through The Global Good Fund's Fellowship model. To date, The Global Good Fund has supported 38 social entrepreneurs who have stimulated 100,000 new jobs in the communities they serve globally. The Global Good Fund 2017 Fellowship Programs received 2,700 applications for 34 fellowship positions. Ms. Rich stated, “My aim is to provide an accessible platform for young leaders addressing complex social issues with entrepreneurial energy and creativity. The Global Good Fund is cultivating a global network of innovators who embrace a passion for serving others coupled with an appreciation for the role of entrepreneurship in improving lives around the world." The Zhi-Xing Eisenhower Fellowship is fully funded by Perfect World Network Technology Co. and supported by China’s Ministry of Education. Each fellow's itinerary is customized to the Eisenhower Fellow. The program is implemented by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation. President Eisenhower's grandson, David Eisenhower, and granddaughter, Susan Eisenhower, addressed the 2016 Eisenhower Fellows before their travels. General Colin Powell, Chair of the Eisenhower Fellowship, will receive the Fellows upon their return to the U.S. The Eisenhower Fellowship is a world class program with demonstrated expertise in facilitating a global network of talented leaders to achieve meaningful economic and social development.
