Moving to a new property rental in Toronto, Ontario, can feel overwhelming. You're suddenly trying to get everything done all at once and it can be a very stressful time in your life. Let the following checklists for before, during, and after your move help the transition from one place to the next go much smoother. Before the Move - Set up childcare and schools. Do some research into the schools and child care facilities your kids will be going to long before the move happens.
- Cancel your local memberships. Depending on how far away you are moving, you might not be using those passes to the local swimming pool or museum anymore.
- Call moving companies. Get bids from a few different moving companies to figure out how much you are going to pay them to move your things.
- Cancel your utilities and set up new. As soon as you have a solid move-in date, make sure you call your local utilities and cancel, then set up new utilities for the new home.
During the Move - Confirm (and reconfirm) with the moving company. Call and make sure the moving company has the right address and date and time for the move. Find out whether there will be people at the new place to help unload.
- Keep yourself hydrated and fed. Moving day can be stressful. Remember to stay hydrated and fed so that you can be as productive and efficient as possible.
- Plan to be around for move-out day. Plan to be around some for move-out day, since you might have cleaners or movers who need to talk to you.
After the Move - Notify your contacts of the change of information. Let all of your contacts know your new address and phone number, if applicable.
- Change your address with service providers. Even if you changed your address with the postal service, some service providers might still have your old address. You can make sure correspondence from them makes it to you quickly by changing your address with each one individually.
- Enjoy your new home and neighborhood! Last but not least, make sure you have a good time in your new neighborhood. Get to know your neighbors, make friends, and even have a housewarming party.
With these 3 checklists in hand before, during, and after your move to your new property rental in Toronto, Ontario, your new place will feel much more like home than it would have if you had been scrambling trying to get everything done at once. Taking care of these items will help the transition go along lots easier.
